Privacy, plainly
Confluence is a tool for cleaning up contact lists, and the whole point is that we do not want your contacts. Let's start with what we are not taking, because that is the part that matters most.
What we never collect
- Your contact files. They are opened and processed inside your browser. They are never sent to us, never stored on a server, and we could not read them even if we wanted to.
- Names, phone numbers, email addresses, physical addresses, notes, tags, birthdays or anything else inside your lists.
- Your merged results or exports. The finished file is created on your device and saved straight to your downloads.
- Accounts, passwords or payment details. There is nothing to sign up for.
- Advertising trackers or third-party analytics scripts. We do not sell or share anything with advertisers.
Your files are read by the browser itself, the same way it opens a picture you drag onto a page. Nothing is uploaded to a server at any point in the process.
What we do collect, and why
We keep a small record of visits, not of contacts. Two reasons: safety, and knowing whether this tool is worth continuing.
Your network address (IP)
We record the IP address your visit comes from. It is used first for safety, so we can spot and stop abuse or attacks on the tool. It also tells us roughly where the app is being used, and it helps us tell one visitor apart from another so our counts are honest.
A rough location
Our hosting network gives us an approximate country, region and city for each visit. It is an estimate, not a precise place, and it comes from the network rather than from your device.
An anonymous browser ID
A random value stored in your browser so repeat visits from the same browser are counted once instead of many times. It contains no personal information, and clearing your browser storage resets it.
Basic device details
Device type, model, browser, operating system, screen size, language, time zone and similar technical details such as browser and system version. We use these to fix layout and performance problems on the devices people actually use.
Anonymous usage events
Counts and feature names only, such as how many files were added, how many suggested matches were reviewed, and whether a session finished with a download. Never the contents of your lists.
How long we keep it
Visit records are kept for 12 months and then deleted. Nothing about your contacts is kept on our side, because it was never collected.
If you start a clean-up and come back later, your in-progress work is saved in your browser until you finish it, start a new clean-up, or clear your browser storage.
Why any of this matters to us
Confluence is free while we test it. Honest numbers are how we decide whether to keep building it: how many people try it, how many come back, how many finish a clean-up with a file they are happy with.
Location helps too. If the tool takes off in a particular country or region, we can focus updates there, such as phone number formats, address styles and date formats that are normal in that part of the world.
And safety comes first. Recording the network address of each visit lets us block abuse and keep the tool available for everyone else.
Your choices
Clearing your browser storage removes the anonymous browser ID and the saved progress of any unfinished clean-up. Nothing about your contacts is left behind on our side, because it was never there.
If you would like your visit records removed, or you have a question about any of this, get in touch and we will take care of it.
One more honest note: we are not perfect. Please keep a copy of your original exported files somewhere safe until you are happy with the results.
